“How do you try to sum up a game where Albion were, on the hour ‘Dead and buried’ then come 94 minutes lost a game by the odd goal that in all honesty should have won comfortably, had of course ‘lady luck’ shone over the Shrine. Filip Krovinovic was introduced replacing Gareth Barry, and fresh young legs transformed an Albion performance which was long on effort but short on quality, until the little Croatian worked his magic. Three nil down, became 3-1, when Matty Phillips having his best game for some time reduced the arrears. At least three goal bound efforts were cleared off the line by desperate Newcastle defenders, an inspired Kyle Edwards struck the bar, before setting up Kenneth Zohore to bring the game back to 3-2, and even in the dying seconds the Newcastle defense scrambled away another goal bound effort….Alas it was not to be…..But on another day, it could have been so, so different.
Looking on from the Regis Suite, Chairman Ray Wilson and Secretary Geoff Snape were joined by Ally Robertson, Gary Hackett, Micky Fudge, Joe Mayo, Mark Grew and John ‘Tucker’ Trewick, whilst Ian Hamilton and Darryl Burgess were ‘on duty’ in the East Stand Corporate suites as well as Joining pre-match tour groups around the stadium.
After the game manager Slaven Bilic was phylisophical about the result but rightly proud of his teams performance, taking Albion’s Premiership opponents to the ‘wire’ in a game that to be fair had pretty much everything in terms of action, goals and drama!! So, whilst we ‘shelve’ our Wembley dreams for yet another season, we look forward to Swansea on Saturday, continuing the ‘Throstles’ push for promotion…..C
