It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden death of former player Peter Billingham at the age of 80. Peter joined the Albion on 5th May 1960, along with Stan Jones, from Walsall for £7,000. Stan remembers Peter buying a Sprite and the two of them going to Skegness on holiday, can you imagine those 2, in excess of 6 foot, travelling that far in such a small car!
A right half by trade, Peter made 7 appearances, making his debut versus Birmingham City in August that same year. Unfortunately for Peter he was up against Bobby Robson & Ray Barlow for 1st team opportunities and decided to move onto Worcester City in 1962.
Upon retirement Peter established himself as one of the Midland’s leading greyhound trainers and had a long association with Monmore Green, as well as Norton Canes, Kings Heath and Cradley. Peter received a lifetime achievement award in 2008 at the Midland Greyhound Ball. He was also a golfer being a member at Enville Golf Club.
Unfortunately Peter stopped attending our AGM & Golf Day a number of years ago but at least kept in contact with one or two who were fellow members at Enville.
Peter died peacefully on Monday (August 26th) whilst sitting in his garden enjoying the sunshine.
Our sincere condolences go to his wife Delia, daughters Joanne, Kim and son Simon and granddaughter Olivia.
