“After a three week break, how good was it to see a virtual full house back at the Shrine for the televised clash with the Terriers from Huddersfield, a team we haven’t had the greatest of success against over recent years, the last victory being back in November 1998 when a Lee Hughes hat trick put the Yorkshiremen to the sword.
For a while it looked to be the same story, but whatever the ‘gaffer’ said tp his troops at half time, plus a an inspirational change or two, turned the game on its head, and three superb second half strikes put the game to bed, to increase Albion’s unbeaten league run to eight games, which I reckon is close to an al time club record…history books out this week!!
It was also a busy day for the association with the one and only Derek Statham jetting in from Spain, to team up with his old mate Mark Grew in the Corporate boxes. Super Bobby Taylor teamed up with his 1993 team mate Paul Raven in the various East Stand suites, provided pre-match and post match entertainment for the guests.
On the other side of the Shrine in the Regis Suite, Chairman Ray Wilson and Treasurer Norman Westbury were joined by Stan Jones, Derek Monaghan, Micky Fudge, Denis Clarke and Kate Lovett, whilst Scretary Geoff Snape, along with President Brendon Batson OBE and Ally Robertson, were invited guests at a birthday celebration in the East stand boxes, with ‘Dekker’ Statham doing the honours with a pre-framed signed shirt presentation.
Queens Park Rangers on Saturday down in West London, followed by a long trip to Elland Road, Leeds the following Tuesday, so a busy week ahead for Slaven and his troops, and of course the travelling faithful.”
