The 8th March 1958 in the town of Port Talbot this Welsh former player was born. Wayne Hughes joined the Albion in 1974 as an apprentice and made 8 appearances of which 5 were as a substitute scoring twice. Wayne made his debut versus Aston Villa away in May 1977 coming on as a substitute. He was capped at Wales Youth and under 21 level having signed professional forms in March 1976. A member of the successful FA Youth Cup side of 1976. Wayne had a spell playing in America for Tulsa Roughnecks from January to September 1979 and was converted to centre forward and immediately scored a hat trick of penalties versus Dallas Tornadoes. He left the Hawthorns in October 1979 going back to Wales to join Cardiff City then a spell at Yeovil Town before retiring from the game and became a pub landlord in Swansea before a move to Blackpool as a Hotelier, where he still resides today in retirement. Wayne has 3 children and 5 grandchildren to keep him occupied.
