Born 25th August 1973 in the North East. Phil Gilchrist was born in Stockton on Tees played for two local sides Middlesbrough and Hartlepool before joining Oxford United in February 1995. Leicester City signed him for £500,000 in August 1999 and a smilar fee brought him to The Hawthorns in March 2001. Phil made 121 appearances plus a further 5 as a substitute. Phil was part of our promotion winning side of 2001-02 which saw us reach the Premiership. Phil made his debut in March 2001 against Tranmere Rovers. Injuries plagued his time at the Hawthons but a loan spell at Rotherham in 2004 saw him make a permanent move on a free in June 2004. A return to Oxford in 2006 brought his career to an end in December 2007. He had a spell at Woking as Manager but in 2009 he finished totally in football to enter education, he is now working at Ratcliffe College in Leicestershire. Because of teaching committments Phil is only able to attend games during the school holiday period.
The West Bromwich Albion Former Players Association was founded in 2003. The Association started following a conversation between two former players Brendon Batson MBE, then Managing Director of West Bromwich Albion and Graham Williams, captain of the 1968 Cup Winning Team.
