Today is the birthday of Len Cantello, born 11th September 1951. Len joined the Albion in 1967 as an apprentice and madev 371 appearances during a 12 year stay at The Hawthorns. At the age of 18 Len played in the 1970 League Cup Final. He donned 10 different shirts during his carreer with The Baggies. He left in 1979 when Bolton paid £350,000 for this classy midfielder. Manchester born and now lives back in his home town. Len scored ITV’s goal of the season in that December 1978 classic match against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Len was awarded a testimonial in 1979 and his match had a team of black players including taking on a team of white players, somehing that is being commemorated in due course with a BBC documentary.


Len has now retired but having finished football he worked for a company Field Turf based in Montreal as the European representative selling synthetic grass. Len is married to Fiona. He has recently attended a game and function at The Hawthorns.
