The 18th September 2010 marks the 1st anniversary of the passing of Brendon's wife Cecily. To commemorate that date Brendon is undertaking a bike ride from the church in Chingford where he and Cecily got married to the home of West Bromwich Albion FC, The Hawthorns, a journey of approximately 120 miles. His aim is to raise as much money as possible to be donated to the Birmingham St Mary's Hospice and Cancer Research UK.

Heroes of '68 'Be Proud' Forum

west bromwich albion former players2 days prior to the new season over 150 fans were entertained by 4 Stars from the 1968 Cup winning side. Thursday 12th August a joint venture between the Albion Foundation and the Former Players Association saw Graham Williams, captain 1968, ably assisted by John Kaye, Graham Lovett and Tony Brown fielding questions from a lively audience made up of young and old.

Monday 28th June saw another fabulous Golf Day for the Former Players Association.

22 Teams for a shot gun start at 2pm, weather fantastic, course in good nick, what more could we ask for.

A remarkable game at the Hawthorns, a 'see-saw' nine goal thriller, that had just about everything. Three penalties, two for Bolton and one for Albion, two hat-tricks, for Bolton's Lee, and Derek Kevan, for the Baggies. Albion's penalty, the final goal of the game, scored by Don Howe, settled the issue, and 18, 670 spectators, went home with a warm feeling about the entertainment served up by two of the countries premier teams.

west bromwich albionOn 7th th November 1998, the world and Albion lost one of it's finest sons. An iconic character, who warmed the hearts of all who had the pleasure and privilege to meet him, work with him, and of course play in the same football team as him. John 'Ossie' Osborne, was a special person, a special footballer, and paid up member of the goal-keepers union, in every sense of the word. He had no fear, he put his body on the line, for his beloved Albion, time and time again, almost as if his life depended on it, his plastic finger joint will bear testament to that.

About Old Baggies

The West Bromwich Albion Former Players Association was founded in 2003. The Association started following a conversation between two former players Brendon Batson MBE, then Managing Director of West Bromwich Albion and Graham Williams, captain of the 1968 Cup Winning Team.

A meeting was held at the Belfry Hotel in May that year when a committee was formed to organise the Association. The initial committee was made up of three former players Graham Williams, Alistair Robertson, Nicky Cross and two long suffering supporters Norman Westbury and Geoff Snape. Read more...
