For some reason the sixth month of the year has been defined as “Flaming June”, this year it has certainly lived up to it’s reputation. The 16th Annual Golf Day was played in the hottest conditions we have known since 2002. Walsall Golf Club was again the venue and for once most golfers followed the lead our photographer shows throughout the year, exposing the legs to the natural light.

More Former Players and more Teams gathered this year to compete on a golf course whose conditions created an extremely testing round of golf, hard fairways, greens firm and balls running further than intended. The scores reflected the testing conditions with the winners registering scores in the low 80’s.

We welcomed some new faces amongst our teams Steve Saul entering Route 39, Matt Wright Boing FC, who had our youngest competitor yet James Thompson at the tender age of 15 and a team entered by Julia Regis. We also had a returning Adrian Chiles who brought along John Yapp former Finance Director for the PGA, Eddie Wedderburn came along as a guest of our treasurer Norman Westbury.

For once many were happy to be playing shots from the shadow of the trees, Kenny Foggo came along for his first golf day to be Laurie Rampling’s assistant, both sheltering under the shade.

This year the Former Player’s Trophy was renamed in memory of our colleague Cyrille Regis.
