They say we are a Nation of “weather watchers” well certainly leading up to our annual golf day the signs that the weather was not going to be good, certainly concentrated the mind of the organisers. Rain, thunder, cloud, showers – everything was suggested but come the day all our worries were unfounded, the Walsall weather did us proud, ideal conditions for a golf day. On an ideal golf course with 80 golfers ready to do battle, the starting gun was fired at 1.30pm and the former players golf day was underway.

It was again well supported by friends, supporters and former players. We welcomed 2 new teams, one lead by Nick Lovett of M3 Agency, Nick is the son of the late & great Graham Lovett, we also welcomed a team of Coventry City former players. It was good to see Gavin Whitehouse return to the fold with his new accountancy Bennett Whitehouse. It was good to see new faces amongst our members with 1968 FA Cup winner Ian Collard making his debut alongside a more recent member of the blue and white brigade Peter Odemwingie. Also a welcome first timer was David Ashman, son of our 1968 FA Cup Winning Manager Alan.
Walsall Golf course was in excellent condition with quick greens and superb fairways. As usual the hospitality afforded to us by the members and catering staff was much appreciated.
Dinner & Prize Presentation started at 7.45pm and a warm welcome to all our visitors was extended by President Brendon Batson. Derek Monaghan acted as MC for the evening.
A few ladies joined us on this occasion, Kate Sammon being a golfer took part in the competition whilst Barbara Haden along with Susan Ball joined us for the dinner. Ray Wilson thanked all entrants, sponsors and the golf club.
